My Afro And I

My Afro and I

Hi! It’s me, Havilah. I want to tell you about my hair and would like to hear about yours soon. There is A LOT of hair on my head, thick, full and exceptionally long (I will share the length soon😍), but I have only just started embracing my natural hair.

Now let me tell you a bit more about myself: As I said, I’m Havilah, and I am 15 years old; my hair texture is 4b, with very loose curls at the front and tighter curls at the centre of my head and a mixture of tight curls and coils at the back of my head. Have I always taken care of my hair? The answer is no, why? You may ask? Because of two reasons:

  1. My hair is exceptionally full, like I said, and having to deal with it myself or even asking my mum for assistance is quite draining
  2. Having to detangle my hair and then rewash it before putting it into a protective style has always been a lot for me to handle. Mum helps too, but the result always inspires people. I get asked often, “Is that your natural?” I know you can relate to this if you do wear your natural hair.

In some parts of the World, heavy chemicals used in the hair are being done away with, and people are embracing the natural hair that defines their identity and true beauty.

Taking care of my extremely full hair at a young age required a lot of work, and after several thoughts of relaxing my hair, I decided to embrace it as it was part of me. Join my NATURAL HAIRCLUB so we can share thoughts.

Here are a few things I did to help my hair grow and made my whole hair care journey easier till this point:

  • I had to study and read about my hair type. Do you know your hair type? Knowing your hair type is the beginning of a journey.

To embrace your natural hair, you must be patient, confident and love the process. Be confident when wearing your hair; your hair should make you feel proud and inspire others as you celebrate your gift. Try to maintain a positive attitude as it not only helps with the mental aspect but also our physicality 😉

Thank you for reading to the end; well done! Let’s make a safe place to discuss and learn about our natural hair types, giving all the accolades to our parents for helping us so far and inspiring others too. Join my natural hair club. It promises to be fun as our family can join too; the more, the merrier.
